Hello!
My name is Jess and I would love the opportunity to show you how to play the Violin or the Cello (or musical saw if it suits your fancy).
I am a Portland native. I started private study of the violin when I was 5 and was classically trained on that instrument, performing as a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic. I came to the cello later and from the moment I picked it up it was a natural fit. It's voice brought out an expression that was both soothing and creative. Over the years I've performed in groups ranging from full orchestras and string quartets to rock bands, most recently in the Portland Indie band, Strangled Darlings.
The most important thing I can do as a teacher is to inspire people. I am very excited about communicating through the medium of music and I aim to share that excitement with as many people as possible. I believe in emphasizing the fundamentals of music and creative expression. I work with students to build a strong foundation allowing them the flexibility to experiment with different forms of musical expression.
For a child, learning music is the best way to explore creative intellectualism. For the an adult, it's the best way to keep the mind sharp and flexible. Teaching at Swaha studios is one of the ways I can share and express my love of music.
